Young City Readings
Two UNESCO Cities of Literature, Vilnius and Lviv, present the second part of the project ‘Young City Readings’. In 2025, aspiring creators from both cities were invited to write on the theme ‘Flames’, inspired by lines from Maironis’ poem ‘To Our Heroes: After Regaining Independence’. Selected emerging translators participated in translation workshops for Lithuanian-Ukrainian and Ukrainian-Lithuanian pairs. The first stage of the workshop took place in the spring of 2025, and the second in September 2025.
The work of the selected authors is published in a bilingual digital almanac. Participants in this year’s project include the Lithuanian authors Lilija Rakova, Eglė Elena Murauskaitė, Evelina Bondar, Gabija Kopūstaitė, Kornelija Dagytė, Linas Daugėla, Marija Šimaitytė, Verdenė Monika Valkiūnaitė, Vita Matulytė and Martyna Zaborovskytė.
The Vilnius City of Literature Commission: Daiva Čepauskaitė, Marius Burokas, Antanas A. Jonynas.
The Lviv City of Literature Commission: Kateryna Mikhalitsyna, Halyna Kruk, Ostap Slyvynsky.
The project is funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture.
