DAIVA KAIREVIČIŪTĖ
Me | The Other
Exhibition of photographs of writers
27 May 2026 – 31 December 2026
The photographs of graphic artist and photographer DAIVA KAIREVIČIŪTĖ (b. 1971) are characterised by their narrative quality and multi-layered nature – each image is a short essay, story, dream, or impression. In her photography, the artist reveals herself as an enfant terrible – a provocateur and a player, whose captured scenes never leave the viewer indifferent.
Daiva Kairevičiūtė’s photography process is also unpredictable. The series of photographs of Lithuanian writers, which began in 2019, has already gained a lot of attention on social media, and some of the photographs have been published in the magazine Literatūra ir menas. One of the central axes of the exhibition is a collection of unseen photographs that reveal the behind-the-scenes of the process, but are just as original and mystical as the main ones.
In Daiva Kairevičiūtė’s photographs, ‘The Other’ is often elusive, flitting through the frame or levitating around the writers’ heads like an ephemeral cloud; it hides behind screens or conjures up an extra pair of hands. Next to the writers are family members, loved ones, friends, animals or just random passers-by. They, too, are ‘others’ who complement, help, hinder, and pull pranks or other stunts!
In Daiva Kairevičiūtė’s photography, the writer also becomes ‘the other’ – someone created by the photographer’s imagination, an assigned role, or the magic of the moment. Or perhaps this image of ‘the other’ is the real one?
